- The demands of jobs in the industry and requirement to work overtime;

Analysis of the hours worked by the workforce in the Northern Tasmania Region in 2016 compared to Tasmania within the Northern Tasmania Region shows that there was a higher proportion who worked part-time (34 hours or less) and a lower proportion who worked full-time (35 hours or more).
Overall, 42.4% of the workforce worked part-time (34 hours or less) , and 55.9% worked full-time (35 hours or more), compared with 42.1% and 56.2% respectively for Tasmania within the Northern Tasmania Region.
The major differences between the hours worked by the workforce in the Northern Tasmania Region and Tasmania were:
- A larger percentage of local workers who worked 16 hours - 24 hours (11.4% compared to 11.2%)
- A larger percentage of local workers who worked 25 hours - 34 hours (13.5% compared to 13.3%)
- A smaller percentage of local workers who worked 40 hours (15.1% compared to 15.5%)
- A larger percentage of local workers who worked 49 hours or more (12.5% compared to 12.3%)
The largest changes in the hours worked by the All industries workforce in the Northern Tasmania Region between 2011 and 2016 were:
- 25 hours - 34 hours (+775 local workers)
- 40 hours (-771 local workers)
- 49 hours or more (-748 local workers)
- 41 hours - 48 hours (-627 local workers)
