Hours worked shows the distribution of employment hours for Regional RDAs's residents. Full-time employment is considered 35-hours and over.
The hours worked by employed people in Regional RDAs depends on a number of factors:
- The availability and take-up of part-time work;
- The industry sector in which they work;
- The occupation level and requirement or opportunity to work overtime, and;
- The age structure and household structure of the working population.
Hours worked statistics should be viewed in conjunction with Age structure Occupations, and Income to provide more insight into the observations made.

Dominant groups
Analysis of the hours worked by Regional RDAs's resident workers in 2021 compared to South Australia shows that there was a higher proportion of people who worked part-time (34 hours or less) and a lower proportion of people worked full-time (35 hours or more).
Overall, 41.6% of the resident workers in All industries worked part-time (34 hours or less), and 56.5% worked full-time (35 hours or more), compared with 41.3% and 57.2% respectively for South Australia.
The major differences between the hours worked by the resident workers (All industries) of Regional RDAs and South Australia were:
- A larger percentage of resident workers worked None (4.9% compared to 4.3%)
- A smaller percentage of resident workers worked 16 hours - 24 hours (10.5% compared to 11.0%)
- A smaller percentage of resident workers worked 35 hours - 39 hours (18.4% compared to 22.6%)
- A larger percentage of resident workers worked 49 hours or more (14.6% compared to 11.1%)
Emerging groups
The number of the resident workers (All industries) working full-time (35 hours or more) in Regional RDAs increased by 7336 people (6.1%).
The largest changes in hours worked by the resident workers (All industries) in Regional RDAs between2016 and 2021 were:
- 35 hours - 39 hours (+6,383 persons)
- 25 hours - 34 hours (+3,515 persons)
- 16 hours - 24 hours (+2,098 persons)
- 49 hours or more (-2,003 persons)
