Dominant groups

An analysis of the local sales by industry sectors in Regional RDAs in 2022/23 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Construction ($12,445million or 29.7%)
  • Mining ($7,248million or 17.3%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance ($2,951million or 7.1%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $22,644 million in total or 54.1% of the total local sales by total industry in the Regional RDAs.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in South Australia accounted for 24.2% in Construction; 6.1% in Mining and 7.8% in Health Care and Social Assistance.

The major differences between local sales by industries of Regional RDAs and South Australia were:

  • A larger percentage of local sales by Mining (17.3% compared to 6.1%)
  • A larger percentage of local sales by Construction (29.7% compared to 24.2%)
  • A larger percentage of local sales by Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (6.5% compared to 2.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of local sales by Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (2.5% compared to 6.5%)

Emerging groups

The total local sales by industry in Regional RDAs $increased by 5,861 million between 2017/18 and 2022/23.

The largest changes in the local sales by industries between 2017/18 and 2022/23 in Regional RDAs were for:

  • Construction (+$4,406 million)
  • Mining (-$815 million)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+$638 million)
  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (+$303 million)
