Imports (domestic) includes all imports from other parts of Australia to the Region.Imports (international) includes the value of all imports to the area from outside Australia.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the total imports by industry sectors in Regional RDAs in 2022/23 shows the three largest industries were:
- Manufacturing ($11,218 million or 28.3%)
- Financial and Insurance Services ($3,652 million or 9.2%)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services ($3,182 million or 8.0%)
In combination these three industries accounted for $18,052 million in total or 45.5% of the total imports by industry in the Regional RDAs.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in South Australia accounted for 29.7% in Manufacturing; 8.3% in Financial and Insurance Services and 7.6% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services.
The major differences between total imports by industries of Regional RDAs and South Australia were:
- A smaller percentage of total imports by Transport, Postal and Warehousing (6.4% compared to 7.9%)
- A smaller percentage of total imports by Manufacturing (28.3% compared to 29.7%)
- A larger percentage of total imports by Health Care and Social Assistance (7.4% compared to 6.1%)
- A larger percentage of total imports by Financial and Insurance Services (9.2% compared to 8.3%)
Emerging groups
The total total imports by industry in Regional RDAs increased by $3,604 million between 2017/18 and 2022/23.
The largest changes in the total imports by industries between 2017/18 and 2022/23 in Regional RDAs were for:
- Manufacturing (+$1,024 million)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+$696 million)
- Transport, Postal and Warehousing (+$591 million)
- Health Care and Social Assistance (+$559 million)
