The occupations of the local workers in Regional RDAs will be influenced by factors including:
- The economic base and employment opportunities available in Regional RDAs;
- The age of the workforce;
- The skill and qualification level required to enter an industry; and
- The working and social aspirations of the population.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the All industries workforce in Regional RDAs in 2021shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Managers (32,156 local workers or 16.6%)
- Labourers (28,166 local workers or 14.5%)
- Professionals (27,503 local workers or 14.2%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 87,825 people in total or 45.3% of the All industries local workers.
In comparison, South Australia employed 13.0% as Managers; 10.5% as Labourers and 21.4% as Professionals.
The major differences between the jobs held by the workforce in Regional RDAs and South Australia were:
- A smaller percentage of local workers employed as Professionals (14.2% compared to 21.4%)
- A larger percentage of local workers employed as Labourers (14.5% compared to 10.5%)
- A larger percentage of local workers employed as Managers (16.6% compared to 13.0%)
- A smaller percentage of local workers employed as Clerical and Administrative Workers (9.7% compared to 12.5%)
Emerging groups
The largest changes in the jobs held by the workforce in Regional RDAs between2016 and 2021 were those employed as:
- Community and Personal Service Workers (+4,392 local workers)
- Technicians and Trades Workers (+3,233 local workers)
- Professionals (+2,884 local workers)
- Managers (+2,171 local workers)
