Dominant groups
An analysis of the total imports by industry sectors in the RDA Darling Downs and South West Region in 2018/19 shows the three largest industries were:
- Manufacturing ($6,183 million or 31.6%)
- Financial and Insurance Services ($2,353 million or 12.0%)
- Mining ($1,948 million or 10.0%)
In combination these three industries accounted for $10,484 million in total or 53.7% of the total imports by industry in the the RDA Darling Downs and South West Region.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in Queensland accounted for 35.1% in Manufacturing; 10.0% in Financial and Insurance Services and 7.0% in Mining.
The major differences between total imports by industries of the RDA Darling Downs and South West Region and Queensland were:
- A smaller percentage of total imports by Manufacturing (31.6% compared to 35.1%)
- A larger percentage of total imports by Mining (10.0% compared to 7.0%)
- A larger percentage of total imports by Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (9.1% compared to 6.5%)

The largest changes in the total imports by industries between 2013/14 and 2018/19 in the RDA Darling Downs and South West Region were for:

- Financial and Insurance Services (+$1,014 million)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+$392 million)
- Manufacturing (+$382 million)
