The City of Parramatta is located in Sydney's western suburbs. The City encompasses a total land area of about 61 square kilometres and is a predominantly residential area with substantial institutional, industrial and commercial land use.
Key employment sectors include health and community services, manufacturing, retail, and property and business services. Parramatta features three major public hospitals (Westmead Hospital, The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, and Cumberland Hospital) and one major private hospital (Westmead Private Hospital). The main industrial areas are located in suburbs to the east of the Parramatta CBD (Camellia, Clyde, Granville, Melrose Park, Rosehill and Rydalmere), with a smaller industrial area in the CBD and several smaller industrial areas in suburbs to the west of the CBD (Northmead, North Parramatta, Old Toongabbie and Pendle Hill). The major retail centres are the Parramatta CBD and Westfield Parramatta Shopping Centre, with numerous smaller centres in the surrounding suburbs.
NOTE: The land use shown in the map is derived from ABS Mesh Block categories. Mesh Blocks broadly identify land use and are not designed to provide definitive land use. It is purely an indicator of the main planned land use for a Mesh Blocks. For more information please refer to ABS Mesh Block categories.
